Julia Domina Hadley joins the conflict in the only way she can as a nurse serving with the Red Cross. While her decorated father, Major Manson Hadley is unable to stop her admission, he is able to arrange a "behind the lines posting" to protect her from the ravages of front-line conflict. Ever insistent to prove herself, she volunteers for a dangerous Casulty Clearing Station pickup placing herself in harms way.

Unknown to her, she stumbles into a covert in battle field operation involving the Order. Innocently driving close to the front line she finally sees for herself the sights and carnage aflicting the dreams of her fellow nurses.

The Red Cross provided a valuable service and assitance to armies on both sides of the conflict. Unfortunately, this did place a nurse under suspicion and at times in the cross - hairs of their host nations depending on their actions. In one instance, aiding in the escape of POW's led to a nurses's execution.
