FADING DAWN
On the knife's edge of a severe personal loss that challenges his convictions of service and duty, Flight Lieutenent Reginald Hadley takes his first command. Armed with his new mount, an SE5a and a squadron (Peregrine) of young pilots, he is drawn into the closing diplomacy of WW1. With the allies preparing for the Messine ridge attack and the German Empire on the brink of internal collapse, his involvement in the armistice preliminary negotiations opens his eyes to the clandestine world that has swirled aroud him and his family.
A young ambulance driver, Emily his Sister's companion driver, challenges his assertions of the other classes as he sees his sister's best qualities alive in her. Engaged to be married to the Lady Barklay, his own fears of a life never realised are challenged by Emily's persistent interest versus a Fiance a world away.
Context
As the war progressed, the world that once existed starts to fade away. The War, now in its third year of stalemate trench wardfare has weighed heavily on the German people and it'smiltary that has fought a war on two fronts.
While Germany is not defeated, the cost on the people is high and Kaiser Wilheim calls for an armistice to bring an end to the conflict. Little does he know, that while this may bring respite for a moment, it lays the ground work for the Second World War.
