As heir presumptive, he takes up his duties which include the regular inspection of the troops, and siezing on an opportunity for his beloved Sophie to accompany him, they travel to Sarajevo, Bosnia.

Against this backdrop, the ever present Order tasks Chester Munster and their Agent Atterling to ensure that the troops inspection and the growing bonds between the Austrian and Hungarian houses proceeds sucesfully. Having operational oversight, Chester hatches a plot to ensure that the Archduke's descendants will be able to succeed him. Employing a young and zealous man for the task, Gavrilo finds himself caught up in the aspirations of forces he does not understand. As the plot unfolds and plays out, a critical error by the Archduke's personal driver places the Royal couple in harms way, starting the July crisis sparking the start of the first world war.
Context
When the Archduke Ferdinand succeeded his father as Heir Presumptive, his unconventional marriage to a non-dynastic bride meant that he was married to a woman who would be outranked by the various Ladies of court up until she became Empress. This situation persisted at court where she would enter official engagements last and could not enter alongside her husband. She was alo not permitted to accompany him on certain egagements owing to her low rank.
